知空得色,知色得空

To know nothing, is to know everything. Once we can grasp the true meaning of emptiness, we are no longer empty.

不空中空, 非有为有, 非无为无, 非色为色, 非空为空, 空即是色, 色即是空。
色无空色, 色即是空, 空无即空, 空即是色。知空不空, 知色不色。

Even though I’m Christian, I’ve always loved Buddhist and Taoist philosophies as well as teachings. My favourite is the conundrum of somethingness out of nothingness and the notion that colour is colourless. And then vice versa… nothingness out of somethingness and the colourless bringing forth colours.

So what does all this beating around the bush means?

To me, it’s a reminder that everything in life is transient and an illusion. We think we know, but we don’t know. We think we don’t know, but we know. What we have, may be a loss; and what we lost, may be a gain. Everything is temporal. All things shall one day pass.

Nothing really matters. Since nothing really matters, there is nothing to lose and we can live without fear in our hearts 🙂
