About This Blog

This blog was first started on 27 December 2004 in Livejournal and titled Celebrate Life!. It has since migrated here to WordPress on 3 September 2010 and renamed Celebrate Life Lah!.

Dec 2004 : The first layout and design of Celebrate Life! Since the blog started, dark backgrounds have always been chosen to enhance the colours of photos.

Why Celebrate Life Lah!?

– The domain names ‘celebratelife’ and ‘darrenng’ were both taken up in WordPress. Since lah sounds like life, I decided to use ‘celebratelah’ as the domain name and added that Singaporean slang to the blog title.

– Being THE word that embodies Singlish, lah gives the blog a distinctive Singaporean flavour and an air of casualness and fun! (Or hint of rebellious undertones since lah defies the government’s Speak Good English Campaign? Heh heh… )

– The title is a reminder and call for me (and hopefully for readers) to celebrate every moment in life regardless of good or bad times. But especially during bad times. For everything shall pass, and by celebrating the lessons we’ve learnt during those difficult times, the strength and insight we’ve gained, would make the bitter moments pass faster.

May 2010 : A design update was made when Celebrate Life! was chosen as one of the top 10 finalists at the Singapore Blog Awards 2010.

Those few points more or less captured the spirit of this blog which is a light-hearted but heartfelt look at life. While I try to be unbias in my opinions, that’s not possible. We all have some form of prejudices, paradigms and preconceived notions. As such, you do not have to agree with what I’ve said or am I trying to tell you what to do. I’m just sharing my experiences and the possibility that you may experience it the same way too. If you have other ways of looking at something, do leave a comment on the entry and expand my mind!

I would like to thank you sincerely for visiting my blog and spending the time to read it. I will work to improve it continuously with more interesting topic categories and useful information. I hope my posts have provided you with some amusements and in the process, given you an inspiration to celebrate life… lah!

Sep 2010 : A major theme and colour change when Celebrate Life! migrated to WordPress. The colours brightened up the blog and hopefully, will be more attractive and easier on the eyes for readers.

11 May 2011 : A dedicated blog for travel posts was born. While past travel posts will continue to remain in Celebrate Life Lah!, they are being duplicated in the new site. Henceforth, all future travel blog entries will find their home in Explore Life Lah!. For travel stories, tips, reviews and photography, please visit explorelah.blogspot.com. Thanks!

    Hi Darren!

Your blog is fantastic! Very interesting and easy to read. Such a joy!

My name is Chad and I have recently started my own blog on WordPress called The Stick Pile. Your blog is exactly what I want my blog to feel like. I want to write about life. All the good and bad things that come with it. But through my eyes. The eyes of an idiosyncratic homosexual 😛 please take the time to have a browse and give me some feedback on how you think I am going. That would be fantastic.

    Thanks again

Hey Chad… thanks for dropping by my blog. The site is just an antidote for my tendency to have amnesia. And insomnia. I put myself to sleep reading the things I wrote. LOL. The Stick Pile is wicked fun! You’ve got spunk and your well articulated thoughts makes for good reading and the refreshing ways you string words togayther sure spells the next Sidney Sheldon, or Tom Clancy, or Hitchcock after you graduate 🙂 Keep posting!

I am trying to find out how much dialysis treatments are in Singapore. I have not found a good resource for this. I will be moving there in July and need to know if I can afford the treatments. Any help will be beneficial.
